MAP SIG

The Management of an Accounting Practice Special Interest Group (MAP SIG) has been around for the last 15 - 20 years and is currently lead by another past Chapter President, Brian Wendroff.

This group generally consists of the leadership of small to medium sized accounting practices who operate in a collegial and supportive manner. The MAP SIG events provide a vehicle for professionals to get together, sharing best practices, and explore new ways to support their businesses. It is also a valuable forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.

Something unique to this SIG is the annual MAP survey. This confidential questionnaire is sent in the late fall to small and mid-sized firms in our area, asking about benchmark statistics for each firm. After data is collected and summarized, a MAP SIG presenter shares a comprehensive analysis of our local market, focusing on critical performance indicators and best practices in essential operational areas such as finance, human resources, technology, and more. Discussions during this session have included participants sharing their experiences over the last year and asking questions of one another.

Since this data has been collected over the last 10 years, trends and multiple year metrics can be calculated. Members are encouraged to use the survey results to benchmark their firm’s operations against other similarly sized firms in the area. These insights can help create their firm's new year strategy and budgeting.

This group tends to be forward-thinking and eager to learn about the business environment as things change. Recent SIG events have focused on emerging issues such as AI, automation, offshoring, and succession planning.
