What's your SIG?

Did you know that there is another level to the NCVSCPA? While the Chapter offers monthly CPE sessions designed to be of interest to most members, the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) create additional CPE opportunities to serve their specialized corner of the CPA world. When a SIG event is planned, invitations are sent to all of the SIG members to help ensure awareness of all the support and community available. SIG leaders are always asking for session ideas too. Tax SIG

You may not have had the opportunity to meet Priscilla Myerson, but I bet you know her work. Priscilla has been leading the Tax Special Interest Group (TAX SIG) for at least the last 15 years. Besides running her own firm, Priscilla has been the primary coordinator for the Annual Tri-State Tax Update since the beginning. MAP SIG

The Management of an Accounting Practice Special Interest Group (MAP SIG) has been around for the last 15 - 20 years and is currently lead by another past Chapter President, Brian Wendroff.

This group generally consists of the leadership of small to medium sized accounting practices who operate in a collegial and supportive manner. The MAP SIG events provide a vehicle for professionals to get together sharing best practices and new ways to support their businesses. It is also a valuable forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.

Pipeline Project

Our community is aware of the  shortage of CPAs entering the career field at a time where more and more of our colleagues are choosing to retire. The difficulties finding staff members have driven the need for alternative methods such as outsourcing work, using AI to optimize staff time, etc. These options come with their own challenges.

The VSCPA is actively working in this area on multiple fronts. As a chapter, we are stepping up to help. NCVSCPA has reinstated the pipeline student scholarship and awarded $5,000 to this year’s scholarship fund at the George Mason School of Business.
