Greetings:
Since the beginning of the 2022 fiscal year, members have been able to take advantage of over 25 hours of quality continuing professional education offered through monthly Chapter Meetings, SIG meetings, and through our partnership with the VSCPA. Our Chapter remains strong as we continue to navigate through this COVID crisis. The Board is continuing to monitor the virus spread as we evaluate the possibility of returning to in-person gatherings and events. For now, we will continue to host virtual Chapter sessions.
Upcoming CPE
- In December, the Chapter plans to host two CPE Sessions:
- Monday, December 13, 2021 on “How the pandemic has changed forensic accounting”
- Thursday December 16, 2021 on “You are ALREADY a Boss...even if you don't feel like it!”
- Wednesday January 12, 2022 – Annual Tri-State Tax Update
- Tuesday February 22, 2022 - Economic Outlook Presented by The Wilmington Group
Please watch for registration information for these and other valuable webinars.
Membership Update:
Currently the Chapter boasts 228 members. Do you have friends or colleagues that would benefit from membership? Are there members in your firm needing quality CPE? Know a CPA or a student accounting major that would benefit from membership in the Northern Chapter? Please invite them to join at a discounted membership rate.
Backfill pipeline
As we are all aware, recruiting and retaining qualified talent has been a challenge for the profession. To address this challenge head on and to promote the profession, the Chapter donated $5,000 to George Mason University for the purpose of awarding two deserving accounting majors a $2,500 scholarship each to help defray the cost of education in the accounting profession.
DE&I
To further the Board’s commitment to diversity equity and inclusion, and to combat pipeline attrition, the Board approved a $5,000 contribution to Virginia Society’s Curtis C. Duke and Dr. Ruth Coles Harris Scholarship Fund to honor 100 years since John Cromwell Jr. became the first Black CPA.
As we approach Giving Tuesday on November 30
th, the Board encourages our members to collectively match the Chapter’s contribution. You can make your tax-deductible contribution on the State Society’s website at this link:

Leadership Opportunities
The Board recognizes the importance of our strong Special Interest Groups, or SIGs, to the success of the Chapter. SIGs are an excellent opportunity to get involved in Chapter leadership and learn more about focused topics. If you are interested in joining one or more of our SIGs and participating in SIGs, please visit NCVSCPA website

I pray everyone enjoys a safe and Happy Thanksgiving holiday season!
